Documenting Arthur’s journey
Arthur Neale Van Sciver
We spent the past week in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. We took a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and it was on this outing we decided on this name.
Me and my precious, precious Arthur Neale.
This boy has loved himself some Dagwood’s this summer. We ate there at least 10 times. And I don’t feel bad about it. Sadly, Dagwood is located only in Myrtle Beach, where we spend a few weeks each summer for our job with Campus Outreach for the Summer Beach Project.
Arthur with his cousin Campbell. She seemed to be leaping for joy!
Didn’t have the time or resources on hand to fully dress Arthur up as a cow, but this is us on Cow Appreciation Day at Chick-Fil-A, July 14th. In typical American fashion, many of my experiences I will share with Arthur will be connected to food.
I don’t always spend $6 on an ice cream bowl… but for my special little man? We’re giving him the good stuff. The smell of freshly baked waffle bowls made it hard to resist. Kilwin’s in Blowing Rock, NC.

The sweet women who had to be the bearers of bad news no one would ever want to hear. I ask them if I could have a picture with them so I could remember who they were and their kindness.
Sweet Adele
My blessings – Artie, Adele and Arthur
Little Arthur playing with the big boys. I was out in the driveway with Adele and we got challenged in a few races. We ended up with a few victories! Shared Arthur’s name with the boys too. When is the last time I rode a Razor scooter?
Chick-fil-a breakfast date with my kiddos.
We jumped into the chilly waters at the Carolina Hemlocks Recreation Area near Mount Mitchell with our staff team. Not sure how he liked that…
Artie and I just celebrated our 4th anniversary on the 7th. I like to get a picture of us every year with the # for our anniversary. The 4 is for four years, but it is also sweetly acknowledges the four of us.

Artie and I became friends, engaged and married on Davidson’s campus. This is us on our wedding day at the “kissing well”
Arthur’s feet curled up together, maybe he has those big Neale feet?
Not a great shot, but his hand is propped under his chin. Another shot showed his hands crossed and curled up like his feet, probably getting all cozy for a nap.
On a walk with my babies
This is Arthur’s lion. It’s from his grandmother, MommyK. I had wanted a stuffed animal for him, and with his middle name Neale meaning “Champion”, it felt like the perfect animal for him (and me).
I am involved in a ministry at our church called “Merea”. In our group, once a month 6 older women and 6 of us younger women meet together. They prepare a small devotional for us and we spend the rest of our time learning a new skill (like making bread, using a sewing machine, and lots of other handy things I didn’t know how to do). These sweet women made this quilt , with Arthur’s name embroidered in the middle and the surrounding tiles verses of encouragement from each of them.
A good look at his face.
Left side of his face
Such a peaceful looking boy. Looking at the left side of his face here.
Hello, everyone!
What a gentleman, crossing his leg over his foot.
His hand over his eyes and what would be he forehead if he had one. Those look like some “luscious lips” to me!
Look at his left cheek here – he is totally smiling!
Hand at the mouth.
Artie & I had a Davidson date last week. We got lunch at a spot on the water, the North Harbor Club, where we had our rehearsal dinner.

So much love and support for you, little boy.

This momma did a small hike at 8 months pregnant! I was struggling at the end, but it was too beautiful to miss out on.

Picked a peck of apples with my guys at the Orchard at Altapass.
Love this view and love this guy
Way bigger than my pumpkin.
I craved chocolate milk when I was pregnant with Adele. Wanted to give Arthur a taste too.

Adele knows her books, and she knows this one.
Adele’s morning routine as we come downstairs – “pile of books” and “under the covers” is her request. She sits and “reads” through her books while we make breakfast.
